Alarm goes off, it's 4:45 am. It's early, my nephews; Darin and Ian, are on their way. I grab a cup coffee and tie my shoes. Danny is already out the door and has the car lights shining on the grapes. Cabby follows me out and we grab our picking tub and a pair of clippers. The grapes look good and there are a lot of them. Darin and Ian pull up and smile their way to the clippers and get to work. Coming from Chico, they have already been up an hour with the drive. It's dark and we are harvesting by the headlights from the old Honda. These boys work quickly and chat well as we leap frog our way down the row. Larry pulls up in no time and finds his place in line. It's a rhythm. Clip, drop, slide. We shuffle down the row of grapes filling the bin quickly. The grapes look good and there are a lot of them. We finish just in time for the kids to wake up and we have breakfast, silently celebrating the grapes are in. 2018 Estate Chardonnay...Let the fun continue!
